Yes seldom do we hear about the last things in the Vatican II Church. This may be hard to accept, but the essence of Vatican II is that everyone is basically saved (All men are united to Christ in some way by the Incarnation, Gaudium et Spes, no. 22.) Pope John Paul II believed in Universal Salvation. That is why there is ecumenism and downplay of the last things and the sacrificial (redemptive) nature of the Mass. All explained in a series of 4 books by Johannes Dormann (see Angelus Press).
