I just put a link from my website celticprayer.net to this blog, so perhaps some visitors from that site might come here to find some Celtic thoughts, musings and prayers to deepen the Lenten experience. If that's you, then welcome! I found this prayer in Robert Van de Weyer's Celtic Prayers(Nashville: Abingdon Press, 1997).
A MILLION MIRACLES
O Son of God, perform a miracle for
me: change my heart.
You, whose crimson blood redeems
mankind, whiten my heart.
It is you who makes the sun bright and
the ice sparkle; you who makes the
rivers flow and the salmon leap.
Your skilled hand makes the nut tree
blossom, and the wheat turn golden;
your spirit composes the songs of the
birds and the buzz of the bees.
Your creation is a million wondrous
miracles, beautiful to behold. I ask of
you just one more miracle: beautify my
soul.
As spring approaches, I'm reminded of our sacramental view of the world that sees the shadow of God behind all of creation. The new life all around us opens a window for me to the divine. It's a sign of hope in the midst of transition. Change my heart, O Lord; beautify my soul.
